Bryan & Amanda

The Point San Diego | San Diego, California | September

We've known Amanda since youth group.

Middle school, high school, all of it — she was just part of the fabric of growing up. Then college took her away, and life does what life does. When she came back to Albuquerque, she found Bryan on a dating app. He was in California. She was in New Mexico. They made it work anyway. Every month or two, one of them was on an Amtrak train — crossing the distance between New Mexico and California just to be in the same room as the other person for a little while. That kind of effort says everything about how serious they were.

She didn't move until the wedding made it official. And in September, on a beach in San Diego, it did.

Getting ready with this crew was genuinely one of the most fun parts of the day. The wedding party had the energy of a group of best friends who had been looking forward to this for months — because that's exactly what they were. Relaxed, happy, carefree. No nerves, no chaos. Just people who love each other, getting their person married.

Then Amanda saw her dad.

A first look with a father is its own kind of moment. There are no words that fully get at what passes between a dad and his daughter in those seconds — just the two of them, before everything begins. It was emotional in the way that only the most real things are.

“It was emotional in the way that only the most real things are.”

The ceremony started at four o'clock, right on the beach at The Point.

September in San Diego means golden light and warm air and the ocean doing what the ocean does in the background of everything. The setting was stunning, but what made the ceremony feel significant was what happened inside of it. Bryan and Amanda took communion together — a quiet, faithful moment woven into the middle of their vows. For them it wasn't ceremony dressing. It was the point.

The reception was tacos and good company and the kind of evening that doesn't want to end. Full tables, good food, the best people.

Amanda — we have watched you become who you are over a long time. Getting to be there on this day, with you and Bryan, meant more than a regular job ever could. We are so happy for you both.
